Christmas is a special time for all of us. It reminds us of God’s promise and plans that are fulfilled through the gift of His Son. This is my first Christmas with our individuals and my heart is filled with joy knowing that I have the great privilege to spend many more with them.
Much like the season of Advent, 2016 has been filled with change, hope and promise. You remained faithful and supportive as I humbly took up the mantle of leadership at Flat Rock as Rev. Nancy S. Hull retired after 18 years of faithful service and leadership. We are grateful for the great legacy that Nancy has left and we will continue to build on that promise. This past October, we celebrated 150 years of mission and ministry with an evening of recognition legacy and hope. We are blessed by the generosity and faith that you show us throughout the year and most especially at the end of the year.
This year, I am reminded that the Lord is always faithful and He is always good. Even on our most difficult days as we battle funding cuts and our direct care teams works long hours, we remember that our hope is found in Christ Jesus.

Gabby* is an incredible young lady who lives at Flat Rock Care Center. She is musically inclined. I can often hear her playing the piano in the afternoon. She is non-verbal but is very vocal– you can always tell what she is saying even if she can’t vocalized the words. Earlier this year, Gabby* was very ill. Our direct care and program team stayed with her through multiple hospitalizations and never left her side. While she is still not quite 100%, Gabby* is home now. She has regained the weight she lost during her illness and is the joyful, energetic woman that she has always been. When Gabby* visits, everyone’s smiles get a little bit brighter and the workload seems to get a little bit lighter.
Witnessing the love our staff has for our individuals and the lengths they will go to in order to demonstrate that love is humbling and overwhelming. This love is a reflection of the love that Christ has for each of is. This Christmas season, as we reflect on how the Lord has provided for us in 2016, will you consider making a gift to Flat Rock Homes as we look to share a portion of all that we have received?
Your gifts make it possible for us to continue caring for Gabby* and the more than 100 other individuals we serve. Our individuals bring a special light and life to the world, reminding us of the Lord’s goodness and promise this Christmas and throughout the year.
We thank you for your loving support and wish you a blessed Christmas and New Year!
Yours in faith,
