Do you know how much fun we have here at Flat Rock?
you wouldn't believe us if we told you! But, just look!

Every day is a new adventure; learning about each other, the world around us and ourselves!
We go to school, we learn vocational skills, we worship together.
but mostly, we grow together with every step.

Life at Flat Rock....
"I gave my son birth, but Flat Rock gave him life."
While it is true that the children and young adults at the Flat Rock Care Center spend the majority of their time with us, our staff does not replace their parents. Parents are deeply involved in their child's treatment and meet with Flat Rock Staff several times throughout the year. At these meetings, the child's progress is discussed and a strategy for the coming months is developed. The majority of the Care Center residents go home for major holidays, and many visit for birthdays or for several weeks in the summer. Parents are always welcome to come to campus and be as involved with the child as they are able.
Family is a critical component of our well-being and positive growth and development. Many residents go home for weekends and overnight visits, and most will spend some time with their families over holidays. We encourage family members to be as involved as they are able with the ongoing care and treatment of their loved one. Several times each year Flat Rock creates opportunities for families to be involved in activities with their family member who resides here. One great treat that happens every October is our Halloween party. Siblings and parents are encouraged to join their resident for a hayride, dancing and Trick or Treating. End of the summer picnics and Christmas dinners in the gymnasium add to the family's memories of their child as the child grows among us. The special athlete's race during our annual Race at the Rock benefit each April also
Perhaps best describing the relationship of gratitude and shared support of the family and the staff of Flat Rock is the statement of a mother who spoke in a public gathering about her son's life at Flat Rock. She said, "I gave my son birth, but Flat Rock gave him life." The family members of two young brothers who live at Flat Rock Homes recently remarked, "Flat Rock is the best thing we could imagine for these boys on this side of heaven."
