Flat Rock Homes Hosts Dedication Ceremony for Historic Bell at TRL Outdoor Therapeutic Center

On July 30, 2025, Flat Rock Homes held a special dedication ceremony at its TRL Outdoor Therapeutic Center to celebrate the restoration of the historic bell from the original Ebenezer Orphan Institute of the Evangelical Association Administration building, dating back to circa 1888.

The event brought together residents, staff, several current and former Board members, and honored guests — including Bishop John and Elaine Hopkins, whose generous gift made the bell’s restoration possible. Also in attendance was Nancy Hull, former CEO of Flat Rock Homes.

The ceremony began with a welcome from Karen Kilgo, President and CEO of Flat Rock Homes, followed by a reflection on the bell’s historical significance. Bishop John and Elaine Hopkins offered meaningful words of dedication, and the event closed with prayer and fellowship.

“This bell is dedicated to the Glory of God,” shared Bishop Hopkins. “May its presence honor those who cast the vision, serve the residents, and shape the future of Christ’s work here.”

The restored bell is now an integral feature of the TRL Path — a newly completed outdoor therapeutic space dedicated in 2024 — offering reflection, healing, and serenity for residents, families, and staff alike. The day was a beautiful reminder of Flat Rock Homes’ enduring mission and the legacy of care that spans more than a century.
